ACGIH® ANNOUNCES 2007 ELECTION RESULTS
Cincinnati, Ohio August 21, 2006 ACGIH® is pleased to announce the results of its 2007 election for the Board of Directors, and its 2007 Nominating Committee.
ACGIH® members elected Jimmy L. Perkins, PhD, CIH to the position of Vice Chair-Elect. He will begin his four-year term on January 1, 2007. Dr. Perkins is currently Professor and served as Regional Dean of the University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio Regional Campus until 2004. Dr. Perkins joined ACGIH® in 1985.
Manuel R. Gomez, DrPH, MS, CIH has been elected as Secretary-Treasurer-Elect and will begin his four-year term on January 1, 2007. Dr. Gomez is Director of Recommendations for the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, responsible for advancing implementation of the Agency's preventive recommendations. Dr. Gomez became an ACGIH® member in 1989.
Marie M. Martin, PhD has been elected to serve as Director-at-Large on the ACGIH® Board of Directors. She will begin her three-year term on January 1, 2007. Dr. Martin serves as Program Manager for curriculum for the Texas Engineering Extension (TEEX) Service's Professional and Regulatory Training Division, which is the home of the OSHA Training Institute Southwest Education Center for Region VI, the most active OSHA Education Center in the country. Dr. Martin has been an ACGIH® member since 2005.
Four members have been elected to the 2007 ACGIH® Nominating Committee. They are:
Nancy J. Beaudet, MS, CIH. Ms. Beaudet has been the industrial hygienist for the University of Washington Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program since 1994. She became an ACGIH® member in 1987.
Joseph B. Coble, ScD, CIH. Dr. Coble is a Staff Scientist with the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Coble joined ACGIH® in 1983.
Michael J. Horowitz, MS, CIH. Mr. Horowitz is a 2nd generation industrial hygienist whose father worked for New York State, the private sector and the insurance industry. He recently began working in Cal/OSHA's Research and Standards Unit. Mr. Horowitz joined ACGIH® in 1990.
John N. Zey, MS, CIH. Mr. Zey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Safety Sciences at Central Missouri State University (CMSU), Warrensburg, Missouri, and also serves as coordinator of the industrial hygiene program. Mr. Zey has been an ACGIH® member since 1976.
