ACGIH® PRESENTS FUNDAMENTALS IN INDUSTRIAL VENTILATION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF USEFUL EQUATIONS COURSES
Cincinnati, Ohio June 14, 2010 ACGIH® has again joined with ventilation expert D. Jeff Burton, MS, PE, CIH, to offer two continuing education courses in September.
Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation will be held September 13-15, 2010, and Practical Applications of Useful Equations will be held September 16-17, 2010 at the ACGIH® Professional Learning Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Earlybirds who register for either or both courses on or before August 16, 2010 will save $100.00.
Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation is a three-day course that covers both basic and advanced topics related to industrial ventilation including:
- The behavior of air and chemical contaminants in the air
- Industrial process exhaust systems
- Make-up and supply air ventilation systems
- Dilution ventilation systems
- Selection and design of exhaust hoods, ducts, fans, stacks, and air cleaners
- Troubleshooting and testing of existing systems
At the end of this 3-day course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and select appropriate ventilation systems for process emission/exposure control
- Measure the performance of ventilation systems
- Design and evaluate dilution ventilation systems
- Design/re-design local exhaust systems using state-of-the-art CADD design procedures
- Design, operate, and modify hoods appropriate to participant's needs
- Critically review ventilation system plans, drawings, and specifications of engineers and architects
Course participants will receive ACGIH®'s newly released Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Design, 27th Edition, Industrial Ventilation:
A Manual of Recommended Practice for Operation and Maintenance and Companion Study Guide to Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice for Design, 27th Edition, the latest edition of Jeff Burton's Industrial Ventilation Workbook, AutoCalc Spreadsheet Programs that perform calculations and equations covered in the primary workbooks, including ventilation system design, and a CD-ROM with AutoCalc Spreadsheet Programs, copies of classroom PowerPoint presentations, copies of labs and exercises along with supplementary workshop materials. It is recommended that attendees bring a laptop or a notebook to the course.
Practical Applications of Useful Equations is a two-day course that serves as the perfect add-on to Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation. This course closely follows the workbook supplied, and includes:
- Calculation and estimation approaches related to airborne contaminants
- TLV® and TWA
- OA for dilution, fans, system testing, sound and noise, ergonomics, radiation, ventilation, statistics, chemistry, etc.
- A calculations lab in which participants work in a team environment
At the end of this 2-day course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basic fundamentals, estimation techniques, and calculations related to occupational health and safety
- Understand terms and units used in OH&S related estimations and formulas
- Understand and apply formulas related to OH&S estimations and calculations
- Use dimensional analysis to generate formulas and mathematical relationships
- Use AutoCalc Spreadsheet Programs to perform calculations
- Prepare for certification exams
Course participants are required to complete Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation prior to taking this course. Materials received include Jeff Burton's Useful Equations and Industrial Hygiene Workbook, course handouts, AutoCalc Spreadsheet Programs that perform calculations and equations covered in the primary course workbooks, including ventilation system design, and a CD-ROM with AutoCalc Spreadsheet Programs, copies of classroom PowerPoint presentations, copies of labs and exercises along with supplementary workshop materials. It is recommended that attendees bring a laptop or a notebook to the course.
The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has approved both courses for a total of 5.83 Certification Maintenance (CM) Points (3.5 for Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation; 2.33 for Practical Applications of Useful Equations). The Board of Certified Safety Professionals has approved both courses for a total of 2.9 Continuance of Certification (COC) Points (1.74 for Fundamentals in Industrial Ventilation; 1.16 for Practical Applications of Useful Equations). Certificates of Completion will be presented at the conclusion of the course.
Those interested in attending one or both of these continuing education courses can register online at http://www.acgih.org/events/course/BurtSept10.htm.
