Faculty Opening
Jointly appointed between the Institute for a Sustainable Environment and the Department of Biology
Clarkson University, Potsdam NY

The Clarkson University Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) and Department of Biology invite applicants for a joint Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track faculty position to work in a unique multidisciplinary environment. Research experience in Environmental Health, Public Health, or Occupational Health, especially in the area of epidemiology or environmental toxicology is especially desirable. The Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) is home to interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programs in Environmental Health Science and Environmental Science & Policy, along with established M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs in Environmental Science and Engineering. The Department of Biology has strengths in the areas of biomedicine, biotechnology and environmental biology, and a Ph.D. program in Interdisciplinary Bioscience & Biotechnology. Clarkson also offers three health professional graduate degrees (PT, PA, OT) and an MBA in health care management. Through the ISE and other research centers on campus, faculty from across campus engage in interdisciplinary efforts to reduce occupational and public health threats from environmental contamination, and along with our partners at the Trudeau Institute, to understand the etiology and reduce transmission of infectious disease. A competitive candidate for this position will be interested in developing cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations that enhance any of these activities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the ISE and Department of Biology’s Bachelor, Masters and PhD programs through teaching, student-mentoring and investigator-initiated, extramurally funded research. Teaching responsibilities primarily in the areas of epidemiology, toxicology, and environmental health are expected, with opportunity to develop undergraduate and graduate courses that support the public or occupational health areas.

Clarkson University is New York State's highest ranked small research institution with more than 50 degree programs in engineering, the basic and health sciences, liberal arts, and business. Located in the northern Adirondacks in the college town of Potsdam, just a 2-hour drive from Ottawa and Montreal and 2½ hours from Syracuse, Clarkson stands out among America's private, nationally ranked research institutions because of its dynamic collaborative learning environment, innovative degree and research programs, and unmatched track-record for producing leaders and innovators.

Direct inquiries or submit your application to Clarkson University’s Human Resources department at http://clarkson.peopleadmin.com/postings/3688 using the posting number: Fac 2014000545. The complete application includes a cover letter; CV; names of at least three professional references; and a clear vision statement for sustained past and expected future accomplishments in teaching, research, service and/or outreach activities that support Clarkson’s mission. Applications will be reviewed starting November 15, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
