Description:

Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is being rediscovered in the advent of COVID-19 and the challenge of reducing infectious transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. UVGI was widely used in hospitals and communal areas prior to the 1960s to inactivate viruses and other infectious microbes, but it fell out of favor as antibiotics and vaccines took over this role. It is still widely used in countries challenged by TB transmission. Since it is the only really effective means of constantly disinfecting aerosolized virus in or near the breathing zone and more rapid than HEPA-filtered HVAC, this old technology is having a revival. However, can it be installed safely? The irradiation efficacy in occupied spaces can exceed the ACGIH® TLV® for Ultraviolet C at the tradition mercury-lamp wavelength of 254 nm. New lamps emitting at 222 nm have been advertised that claim far greater safety, but may still exceed the TLV®. UVGI can be applied safely if you are knowledgeable.

This webinar is 1.5 hours in length and may be eligible for certification maintenance points.
