Lecture Title: The Intersection of Opportunity and Preparation
Lecturer: Jimmy L. Perkins, PhD, Retired Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Texas School of Public Health
Dr. Perkins is a retired Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Texas School of Public Health. He was a Certified Industrial Hygienist and has worked in the petroleum industry, the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and with a wide range of industries including foundries, specialty metals products, poultry production, printing, telecommunications, educational facilities, and petrochemicals. He has presented short courses in Kenya, Australia, Columbia, South Africa, and Mexico.
Dr. Perkins joined ACGIH® in 1985 and has dedicated many years of service to ACGIH®. He served as Chair of the ACGIH® Board of Directors from 2007–2010 and was Board liaison to the Threshold Limit Values for Chemical Substances (TLV®-CS) Committee. Dr. Perkins also served as Chair of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. In 2015, he was President of the International Occupational Hygiene Association. He has authored publications spanning a wide range of topics including exposure assessment, dermal exposure risk management, water quality, hazardous waste reduction, using modeled air pollution concentrations, including speciated particulate matter, and effect estimates from dozens of epidemiological studies, to examine health risks associated with coal-fired power plants. He is the author or editor of six textbooks.
Dr. Perkins will present the Lee Lecture, entitled “The Intersection of Opportunity and Preparation,” during AIHce 2017 on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 303 of the Washington State Convention Center.
