Cincinnati, Ohio — February 2, 2004 — ACGIH® Worldwide is pleased to announce its co-sponsorship of the 2nd International Control Banding Workshop: Validation & Effectiveness of Control Banding. In addition to ACGIH®, this event is also being co-sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA); the International Labour Organization (ILO); the International Occupational Health Association (IOHA); the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH); the National Safety Council (NSC); the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); and the World Health Organization (WHO). This two-day practicum on a complementary approach to protecting worker health is scheduled for March 1?2, 2004 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Control Banding is a complementary approach to protecting worker health that focuses resources on exposure controls. In this approach, a chemical is assigned to a "band" for control measures, based on its hazard classification according to international criteria, the amount of chemical in use, and its volatility/dustiness. The outcome is one of four recommended control strategies: 1) employ good industrial hygiene practice; 2) use local exhaust ventilation; 3) enclose the process; or 4) contact a professional industrial hygienist. This approach has been incorporated by the United Kingdom into the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and is being increasingly applied worldwide. This is an event you don't want to miss!

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) will award 2.0 Certification Maintenance Points upon completion of this course. The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) will award 1.0 Continuance of Certification Points upon completion of this course.
