ACGIH® PRESENTS BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS IN THE WORKPLACE: DEFINING ENDOTOXINS WEBINAR
— July 5, 2006 — Following the success of ACGIH®'s first webinar, ACGIH® Heat Stress and Strain TLV®: Information for 2006, ACGIH® is presenting its second webinar: Biological Hazards in the Workplace: Defining Endotoxins. The webinar is scheduled for August 3, 2006 at the following times:

The objective of this webinar is to provide valuable background information on endotoxins (what they are, their characteristics and health effects), sampling and analytical methods, exposure reduction/controls, and other related topics. The webinar will feature a detailed case study related to an industrial setting and will allow for audience participation.
Upon completion, attendees will be able to:
- Define the terms endotoxin, Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 3 hydroxy fatty acid (3-OHFA) (What is endotoxin?).
- Describe methods for endotoxin exposure measurement (advantages and disadvantages, limitations, difficulties with interpretation).
- Identify industries and environments with endotoxin exposure.
- Explain basic pathophysiology and health effects of endotoxin.
- Describe strategies for reducing endotoxin exposure and health effects.
Donald K. Milton, MD, DrPH, Adjunct Senior Lecturer on Occupational and Environmental Health at Harvard School of Public Health, Lecturer on Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Attending Physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Stephen J. Reynolds, PhD, CIH, Director and faculty member of the High Plains Intermountain Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, will join together to present this important webinar.
This webinar is pending American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) approval for .5 ABIH (IH) Certification Maintenance (CM) Points. This webinar qualifies for .15 BCSP (SP) Continuance of Certification (COC) Points for Certified Safety Professionals.
