ACGIH® Presents Industrial Ventilation Systems: Energy Savings and Cost Estimation Webinar

Cincinnati, Ohio — August 16, 2007 — ACGIH® presents Industrial Ventilation Systems: Energy Savings and Cost Estimation webinar, scheduled for November 14, 2007 at the following times:

2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time
1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Central Time
12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time
11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time

Is your ventilation system design cost effective and energy efficient? Are you looking for ways to estimate the design and operating costs? The Industrial Ventilation Systems: Energy Savings and Cost Estimation webinar will address energy savings and cost estimating, two common concerns in ventilation systems. The first half of the webinar will focus on "Ventilation System Cost Estimating." This presentation will address factors affecting the installation and operating costs of industrial ventilation systems. The presentation will focus on developing a project budget, determining economic advantages of multiple control options, estimating annual operating and maintenance costs, and reporting of costs to upper management. The second half of the webinar, entitled "An Energy Savings Primer for Industrial Ventilation Systems," will provide background information and important knowledge on how to save energy by employing the proper control and application of industrial ventilation systems. Industrial exhaust systems are energy intensive in their operation; therefore, this presentation will discuss the energy use of the ventilation system components and provide methods for calculating the actual amount. Focus will be placed on approaches to reduce energy use of the exhaust systems and safeguards for systems where air can be re-circulated back to the plant. Case studies will be presented to demonstrate practical examples, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions in a real-time setting via a text chat feature.

After participating in the webinar, attendees will be able to understand:

  • The financial considerations affecting the installation and operation of ventilation systems
  • How to evaluate the component and operating costs of a ventilation system
  • How to save energy by properly controlling industrial ventilation systems
  • How to create an energy management plan
  • The energy audit process
  • How to evaluate the pros and cons of an energy project

ACGIH® is pleased to offer webinar attendees a new audio option. U.S. and Canadian attendees can connect to the audio portion of the webinar via the toll-free audio telephone link or listen to the audio portion through an audio stream directly to their computer. Other international participants can listen via the audio stream without incurring additional telephone charges.

The presenters for this webinar are Doug L. Edwards, PE and Gerhard W. Knutson, PhD, CIH.

Mr. Edwards is the Director of Engineering at kbd/TECHNIC, Inc., a consulting engineering firm that specializes in the design, testing, and troubleshooting of industrial ventilation systems. Mr. Edwards has been an instructor at the University of Alabama – Birmingham Industrial Ventilation Conference, and the Michigan State University Industrial Ventilation Conference. Mr. Edwards is a member of the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee.

Dr. Knutson is President of Knutson Ventilation Consulting, Inc. Dr. Knutson has over 30 years of experience as a consultant, evaluating and designing industrial ventilation systems and conducting industrial hygiene and air pollution studies for private industry, commercial, and governmental clients. He received a PhD in Math from Michigan State University, and an MPH in Occupational Health from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Knutson is a member of the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee, an active participant in ASHRAE, and an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.

This webinar is pending approval by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) for .5 ABIH (IH) Certification Maintenance (CM) Point. This webinar qualifies for .15 BCSP (SP) Continuance of Certification (COC) Point for Certified Safety Professionals. Participants seeking CM or COC points must attend the live webinar or view the archive and submit a final exam and evaluation. Certificates of Completion will be issued in a timely manner after receipt and completion of these items.
