Protecting Workers and Public

ACGIH Protects Workers and the Public

For nearly 85 years, ACGIH® has been respected for its commitment to the industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety communities. As a 501(c)(3), ACGIH is dedicated to its mission to advance occupational and environmental health globally by providing educational programs, scientific data, and technical knowledge to Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) professionals in the interest of workers and the public. The definition of a workplace has changed for many during the global pandemic and ACGIH remains steadfast in its support of all workers and the public.

TLVs® and BEIs®

Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs) are determinations made by a voluntary body of independent knowledgeable individuals. They represent the opinion of the scientific community that has reviewed the data described in the Documentation, that exposure at or below the level of the TLV or BEI does not create an unreasonable risk of disease or injury. More information on TLVs and BEIs and our scientific process can be found here.

ACGIH’s TLVs and BEIs book is user-friendly, pocket-sized publication which is used worldwide as a guide for evaluation and control of workplace exposures to chemical substances and physical agents. Threshold Limit Value (TLV) occupational exposure guidelines are recommended for more than 700 chemical substances and physical agents. There are more than 50 Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs) that cover more than 80 chemical substances.
