NEW! Navigating EPA’s TSCA Risk Evaluation
Insights for Industrial Hygienists

Earn 7.5 Education Contact Hours

ACGIH offers this webinar series on demand, Navigating EPA’s TSCA Risk Evaluation Insights for Industrial Hygienists. This Series includes five on demand webinars.

Webinar Series Description:

The 2016 Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act brought a significant update to the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), empowering the EPA to regulate chemical substances more effectively in the U.S. This webinar series aims to assist industrial hygienists and occupational health specialists in understanding how EPA’s TSCA efforts may impact worker safety and health. It covers key modifications introduced by the Lautenberg Act, such as mandatory evaluations of existing chemicals and a focus on vulnerable populations like workers. The series emphasizes the exposure scenarios and conditions used in EPA’s chemical evaluations. Additionally, it provides insights into EPA’s risk evaluations for the eleven chemicals evaluated so far, including asbestos and perchloroethylene. Furthermore, the series delves into EPA’s risk management decision-making process, highlighting potential actions for chemicals deemed by the EPA to pose unreasonable risks.

On-Demand Webinars included:

A Comprehensive Overview of EPAs TSCA Risk Evaluations

Current Status of EPA’s Risk Evaluations for Existing Chemicals under TSCA

Current Status of EPA’s TSCA Risk Evaluation for Asbestos

Navigating TSCA: Understanding Risk Management and EPA Regulatory Measures for Chemical Safety

Understanding Exposure and Risk Components of EPA’s TSCA Risk Evaluation for Perchloroethylene

Biological Monitoring in Occupational Exposure Assessment

Earn 2 Education Contact Hours

This is an asynchronous online course on how to use biological monitoring to assess chemical exposures. Biomonitoring can help in exposure assessment of specific chemicals and characterization of exposure pathways. Biomonitoring is especially useful when chemicals enter the body through inhalation and skin. Recall that traditional industrial hygiene air monitoring can only assess airborne exposures. Biomonitoring may be interpreted at group or individual levels in conjunction with ACGIH Biological Exposure Indices (BEI) values.

Certificate in Noise and Hearing Loss Prevention

Earn 7 Education Contact Hours

You may know that noise exposure is a ubiquitous workplace hazard in the US and globally, and that noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common occupational diseases. However, did you know that occupational noise has also been linked to high blood pressure and injuries? Or that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s limit for noise is not very protective against noise-induced hearing loss? This certificate course explores the basics of noise, auditory and non-auditory health impacts of noise, noise measurement instrumentation and methods, relevant exposure limits and guidelines (including the ACGIH® TLVs® for Audible Sound, Infrasound, and Ultrasound), hearing loss prevention programs, noise controls, and hearing protection devices. Learners can also choose to learn about ototoxic exposures (that is, chemical agents that can harm hearing even in the absence of noise), hearing protector fit testing, and community noise assessment. Practical and real-world examples are included throughout the course to reinforce key concepts. Technical readings are tied to each topic to allow learners to explore concepts in greater detail.

The Ethics of Using Chat Artificial
Intelligence in Industrial Hygiene

Earn 2 Education Contact Hours

Chatbots that write text through artificial Intelligence (Chat AI) is a rapidly growing technology with the potential to revolutionize many fields, including industrial hygiene. However, there are ethical considerations that need to be taken into account when using this technology. This webinar will discuss the potential benefits and risks of using Chat AI in industrial hygiene, as well as the ethical considerations that need to be taken into account. This webinar will be led by Dr. Tom Peters and Lilia Chen, leading experts in the field of industrial hygiene. They will discuss the use of using Chat AI in Industrial Hygiene in the following modules:

  • Review of the code of ethics and ethical behavior in industrial hygiene
  • How to use Chat AI with a discussion of many potential benefits
  • Risks and ethics of using Chat AI in a safe and ethical way
