2023 John J. Bloomfield Awardee

The John J. Bloomfield Award is presented to a young industrial hygienist who pursues the problem of occupational health hazards primarily by doing fieldwork.

The 2023 Bloomfield Award recipient is Robert Vannice, MS, CIH, CSP.

Robert Vannice is a corporate Industrial Hygienist at Amazon where he develops and manages the global noise strategy and industrial hygiene programs. Robert routinely seeks the collaborative input from all levels to develop and implement solutions to health and safety problems. Recently, Robert led a cross-functional team to standardize the collection and reporting of occupational exposure data into a data management system.

Robert’s OEHS career started in the US Coast Guard where he gained an outstanding working knowledge of OEHS regulations and enforced these regulations through regulatory compliance inspections, education, and stakeholder engagement for a variety of industries including oil and gas, shipping and transportation, hazardous materials, and manufacturing. After nine years of Enlisted Active Duty service, Robert completed a Master of Science in Environmental and Occupational Exposure Science at the University of Washington. After graduate school, Robert was accepted to the highly competitive US Coast Guard Officer Candidate School where he continues to serve as an Officer in the US Coast Guard Reserve. Robert has also obtained certification through the Board of Global EHS Credentialing as a Certified Industrial Hygienist, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional, and is an AIHA Registered Specialist in Exposure Decision Analysis.
